Rahu — Full Reading
Last updated
Rahu signifies ambition, foreign matters and amplification — where it is strong, where it is weak, what it does in each of the twelve houses, and how it is strengthened.
0What Rahu signifies
Rahu signifies ambition, foreign matters and amplification. Rahu is the head without a body — appetite with nothing to satisfy it. It owns no sign, so it has no house to rule and no lordship to carry. Wherever Rahu sits, those matters are switched on — the house it occupies and every house it aspects take on its character, but it has no house of its own to rule.
Strong and weak
Rahu owns no sign, so it has no lordship of its own and no house to rule. It gives the results of the graha that owns the sign it sits in, and of any graha it sits with. It is always retrograde, and always exactly six signs from Ketu. It is held to be debilitated in Scorpio, and the classical texts do not agree on an exaltation — which is why its dispositor, the graha that owns the sign it sits in, decides more about it than its own sign ever does.

Strengthening it
The classical strengthening for Rahu is its own weekday — Saturday — its Beej mantra, and the donation of the things it rules. Its gemstone is Hessonite, which no honest astrologer prescribes without reading the whole chart: a stone strengthens a planet, and strengthening a planet that is already doing damage makes the damage worse.
If you want to act on this
A remedy in jyotish is an act, not a purchase — a fast, a mantra, a donation on the right weekday. Where a formal ritual is called for, these are the three that apply: a puja performed on your behalf, a chadhawa offered at the temple, or an abhimantrit article energised with the mantra of the planet involved.
Not sure what this means for your own chart?
Ask the astrologer — it reads your chart, not a general rule, and answers in plain words.
