A pratyantara is the third level down — the sub-period of a sub-period. It is what makes a dasha reading specific to a month rather than a decade, and it is the level most short-term questions are actually answered at.
How it is worked out
The arithmetic is proportion, not a table. Each graha's share of a period is its own years divided by 120, times the length of the period it sits inside. Venus inside Saturn: 20 ÷ 120 × 19 years = about 3.2 years, and the pratyantara divides that same way again — which is how a three-year antardasha breaks into sub-periods of a few weeks to a few months.
