Twelve rashis of 30° each and twenty-seven nakshatras of 13°20' each do not divide evenly, so a nakshatra does not sit neatly inside one rashi. Nine of the twenty-seven cross a boundary, and for those the rashi depends on the pada — which is why two people told they share a nakshatra can be given different moon signs.
